our life :: brought to you by play school

We got this idea from watching one of our favourite play-school episodes. As with all great episodes this one has plenty of fun and simple ideas that we like to enjoy while the television is off. Singing incy-wincy spider, drawing beautiful sunny scenes on paper with water colour pencils, then painting them with water.

However the best idea is the one we do outside in the sunshine, or one that we've been known to enjoy while tucked inside on a rainy day - with the help of a couple of big bath towels - is this :: Dolly Bath Time

This is really fun, and really messy (without being too messy like painting can be), and it keeps them entertained for at least an hour. An hour which I never fail to enjoy a deep breath and a hot cup of tea. The fun lasts until the water runs out, by which time they have usually had enough anyway, and are more wet than the dolls that they are bathing.

It's such an easy activity to prepare for too - the only thing that I bought were the el-cheapo dolls (which Daisy just adores - me? not so much) the other materials required are:

- A bath. Ours is an old kitty litter tray that has been scrubbed out;

- a couple of face washers;

- some bubbly, no tears, bath wash;

- a couple of cloth nappies (or hand towels) to dry the dolls with; and

- Plenty of space for splashing.

Hi Jo, Another variation on the theme at our house is 'car washing'. All you need is all the bikes and trikes, a bucket of water, the car brush and some old rags. Again hours of fun while Mum has some Mum time.

This is such a great idea, I'll have to try it soon. I found my way to your beautiful & inspiring blog via The Craft Crow. I live in Tampa, Florida, USA and I keep busy & creative parenting my nearly 4yo son and 1yo daughter. Your blog has already given my lots of ideas. Thank you!
